Downtown Santa Eulalia isn't our favorite town in Ibiza, a familiar stomping ground for second-home owning Germans with fun-seeking teenagers than the fashion icons that populate the island's more removed regions. But those looking for a central location and modern design resort setting discover Aguas de Ibiza - once managed by Spain's Hospes Group and now a member of Germany's esteemed Design Hotels. The hotel is situated along the marina promenade of Santa Eulalia where an eco-luxury concept is riddled with hidden environmental gems like solar glass balconies, motorized curtains that close when rooms are unoccupied and landscaping around two resort infinity pools nourished by treated wastewater. Inside, a soaring atrium flanked in glass faces a harbor view with terraced resort pool surrounded in loungers and a fashionable contingent of Germanic and Brit hotel guests. An in-house eatery serves up a beach club inspired menu with lively bar and morning buffet at what's, perhaps, the best large-scale chain-style hotel on the island.
The Room
The details of Aquas de Ibiza are hard to argue. Rooms accessed via a rather slow elevator that opens to airy corridors and doors of exotic, eco-sourced wood. Rooms feel more boutique than lux, stylish loft-style spaces with natural stone floors and well-tailored wood closets. Most bathrooms feature rain showers with line-up of products by SF’s Essential Elements, all enclosed behind a wall of glass with window offering privacy shade. Views overlook the outdoor pool deck and wider harbor horizon, worthy of a look but not much of a photo-op given the less-than-ideal location of the property.
